I often hear during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist "Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." And then priests sometimes mentions that Jesus is the passover lamb. But, I don't exactly understand the meaning of it. Now that I am older I come to encounter lots of readings and lectures which now made me learn and understand Jesus more. It's very nice to know this piece of knowledge because you will more who the real Jesus is.
Do you know why Jesus is called the passover lamb? Why should he be called as such.
This one attribute to Jesus is very significant because such title has something to do with our faith and our salvation. Now, first, for those who have no theological education, I would like to bring you back to the time when Yahweh or God the Father was telling the Israelites, His chosen people to put blood on door of their houses because "The blood on your houses will be the sign that you are there. I will see the blood and pass over you; and you will escape the mortal plague when I strike Egypt." - Exodus 12,13
God told the Israelites to put blood of lamb on their door to make the Destroyer PASSOVER their houses. Take note of the symbolic significance of blood and lamb and the passing over. Jesus in the New Testament is therefore our PASSOVER lamb because he is like a lamb who shed blood for us to be saved from the punishment of death because of sin. His blood was shed so that God would passover judgment over us sinners. He will save us from the fire of hell because the passover lamb's blood.
Now you know why Jesus is called the Passover Lamb. But what's next?
Yes he is the passover lamb? But the question is: Is he really your passover lamb?
There are still some more things to know for Jesus to be your passover lamb so that you will be like the Israelites who were spared from plague; in your case you will be saved from the fires of hell if you have Jesus as your passover lamb.
Just continue reading my blogs for you to know. But for now be contented with knowing the significance of the picture shown on this blog.
