Image via WikipediaSince we are celebrating Christmas this season called Christmas season, I decided to contemplate on the thoughts about Christmas. For many people Christmas is simply a time to be happy with friends (may he/she be Christian, Non-Christian or Atheist) . Just yesterday, an Indian bus driver asked me how do I celebrate Christmas. I said that I simply go to church, eat with friends and family circle, and give gifts as well. Then he told me, "well Christmas for me is simply a time to be with friends (to eat and drink) and a time with family. As simple as that. That's Christmas already." Then, I asked him: Are you a Christian? He replied no. Then, I was about to ask him out of curiosity as to whether or not he believes in Christ or in Christmas or why he should celebrate it with friends when in fact he is not a Christian. We did not have much time to talk so I sufficed my self with his simple idea of Christmas and with the amazement that even a non-Christian would celebrate Christmas.Christmas is supposed to be celebrated by Christians alone. However, due to the commercialization of Christmas, it has become an event or season that gradually became or becoming part of human culture worldwide. So Christmas is no longer an exclusive celebration among Christians. Is there any thing wrong with that? Yes it's wrong in one sense because the real meaning of Christmas has become trivialized. No it's alright because this big event is able to capture the attention of all kinds of people worldwide. Besides, we do not know what's going on inside their minds as they celebrate Christmas.
Who then should celebrate Christmas? We Christians are supposed to be the role models in celebrating this season, because we are supposed to be the happiest beings on earth as we celebrate this season due to the fact God the Father has sent His only Son to buy us back from our slavery to sin. If we truly understand the reason for Jesus' birth, then we would celebrate Christmas in a special way that the non-Christians would surely notice. We Christians would then be the main celebrants of Christmas.
